Ever wanted to create a gravity defying cake, but intimidated by the part where you have to build a structure? Well, you'll be surprised to learn just how easy making a gravity defying cake can be in this Kawaii Toaster Gravity Defying class.
In this class each student will create an adorable little toaster on a stand up base with playful toast characters popping out. You will learn how to create this structure using basic materials that you can find at any craft or hardware store. In this class, we will make use of styrofoam cake dummies to create the toaster, but we will discuss how you can use Rice Cereal treats or cake to create an edible version at home. In this class, you will also learn various texturing techniques to help bring movement, life, and character to this adorable & fun kawaii themed piece.

Jean A. Schapowal is a self taught cake decorator/designer with over 14 years of experience in the industry. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1987 with a BFA in Fine Arts, majoring in cartoon and illustration, as you can tell from her work which has a very heavy cartoony/pop feel to it! She freelanced for numerous years doing work for Putnam Publishing, Weight Watchers and DC Comics to name a few. She did logo design, wedding invitations, calligraphy work, custom T-shirt designs and murals.
With the start of her family her art career began to take a different route. She began to create cakes for her kids' birthday parties and thus Cakes with Character was born. Friends and family attending these functions inquired about the cakes and business began to grow. After dabbling in numerous art techniques, she found that cake decorating was another amazing and creative new medium! Simple occasion and birthday cakes began to transform over the years, and she became more serious about experimenting with new techniques, styles and designs that people were not offering on Long Island. Later, she began competing in cake shows across the country and taking the leap in competing in LIVE cake challenges.
She loves the endless possibilities that cake decorating has to offer and she loves bringing a smile to someone's face when they see their vision brought to life in cake. Her artistic career may have taken a slight detour, but she wouldn't have done it any differently! Jean says that cake decorating is "an exciting and rewarding profession to be in!"
